LOFT LIVING AT IT’S BEST...

Downtown… Take a stroll down Bristol’s unique downtown State Street and you’ll discover why Bristol is rich with history. Marked by brass markers and anchored by the Historic Bristol Sign, the official state line of Tennessee and Virginia runs down the middle of State Street in downtown Bristol. Quaint restaurants and cafes cluster the streets, serving fresh bagels, homemade pastries and specialty coffees.

Downtown showcases an abundance of antique and specialty shops, lofts and condos, government offices, performance venues, parks, banks, special events, and historic charm.

As a Certified Main Street Community, the revitalization effort of Downtown Bristol will be brought to the next level. The Main Street Four-Point Approach™ advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets: distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership and a sense of community. Through a public/private partnership with both cities and its residents, Main Street’s objective is to improve the image of downtown by facilitating improvements and developing sustainable economic growth making Downtown Bristol a great place to live, work and play.

Several attractions can also be found in Bristol’s Historic Downtown District including ballet, musicals, and other performing arts at the Paramount Center for the Arts and Cameo Theatre, concerts at the Downtown Center and Veterans’ Memorial at Cumberland Square Park. Permanent exhibits of African and African American art, artifacts, black memorabilia, and slavery and family heirlooms can be found at the Nyumba Ya Tausi Peacock Museum. State Street Farmer's Market (ww.statestreetfarmersmarket.com) provides a venue for local farmers to share their bounty with the community. You'll find locally-grown fruits and vegetables; homemade jams, jellies, and breads; and handmade arts and crafts by local artisans. In September, the annual Rhythm & Roots Festival showcases more than 100 national and regional musicians and brings more than 60,000 people to downtown Bristol. Annual Downtown Events.
